The Man in the Mirror is a stage play in which Meng Bing offers his unique and new perspectives on humanity, using an ordinary piece of mirror to reflect its complexity. The script has left enough room for director Wang Yansong to display his talent. His multidimensional philosophy of theatrical performance allowed the “serious play” to affect its audience both visually and emotionally.
As the Deputy Head of China Theater Association, the top-notch scriptwriter, Meng Bing pours his profound patriotism into each and every of his theatrical work. In his attempt to use popular art form as a means to undertake social responsibility, Meng Bing intends to call for the reflection on one’s self, the attention to and an objective cognition of social phenomena.
At the recitation event, Wang Yansong noted that, “theatrical performance is an artistic occurrence on stage, which serves to prompt the audience to find out the truth hidden in superficial reality. In our efforts to help the audience access the information conveyed in the play, to build a framework against which a theatrical work can be effectively evaluated, we discovered many possibilities that can make this stage all the more fascinating.”
