One day, a case has been assigned to Xing Liang, which to his surprise, is targeting his old classmate Zhao Yan. Here begins the thrilling story, on a bright beautiful summer day.
Remarks from the Scriptwriter:
The Man in the Mirror is not a means of whistle-blowing nor a criticism of senior government officials. It is an attempt to analyze the psycho-motive of corrupted officials and to describe the mentality of the investigators during their investigation into the corruption cases.
Remarks from the Director:
In Shakespeare’s words, his work is “to hold the mirror up to nature: to show virtue her feature, scorn her own image, and the very age and body of the time his form and pressure, ” said director Wang Yansong.
The Man in the Mirror is a mainstream stage play that focuses on the interpretation of humanities, and hopefully I could render it into something different in terms of its visual effects and performance.
At the meeting chaired by Wang Yansong, artistic effect of the play and their presentation were discussed while a preliminary plan for the artistic design was proposed. Director Wang Yansong analyzed the narratives of the performance, including the introduction of characters, the design of suspense and the ways each character was connected.
The production crew are all top-notch ones well-known in the theater sector, including the artistic designer, the gaffer and the fashion stylist, who voiced their bold and constructive opinion on stage presentation.
Besides, Wang Yansong offered his own interpretation of characters, their temperament, personality, merits and flaws...so that performers could obtain a deeper insight into the role their are playing.
According to Wang Yansong, the characters in the play, as well as the plot design had left enough room for him and the performers to imagine, expand and recreate. He expressed his wish that everyone could take the opportunity and present a stay play of high artistic value.
In the afternoon, the performers, carefully selected through rounds of screening, came to meet the director, who said the rehearsal was completely open to anyone willing to learn. The actors and actress also expressed their wishes to polish their skills and unleash their potentials during the rehearsal.
Theater arts are different from movie or TV show, as was commented by Wang Yandong. It demands much time and energy. The performers have to transform themselves into their characters within two hours, which is the key to stay faithful to the original script. The play is a realistic depiction of real life, with the genuine desire to represent real life on stage.
Up to now, all the preparatory works are underway while the timetable for rehearsal have been confirmed. According to the schedule, rehearsals will continue to the end of May, right before the premiere on 6th June. During the process of rehearsal, there will be a recitation event and a press conference coming up. Please stay tuned.
