On 12th October, a conference was called by National Theater Company of China to arrange the performance of Beijing Fayuan Temple. The NTCC president Zhou Yuyuan, vice president Ge Dali, Luo Dajun and Wang Pengpeng, the project manager of Tianqiao Shengshi Investment Group attended the conference.
Beijing Fayuan Temple is adapted from the first long novel written by Li Ao, the renowned man of letter in Taiwan. The idea of presenting the story on stage originated in a casual talk between Tian Qinxin and Li Ao, who expressed his appreciation for Tian’s “Zen Style Expression”. Through a two-year long conversation, Mr.Li Ao finally granted Tian Xinqin the right to adapt his work into stage play. According to Li Dong, head of NTCC International Cooperation Department, producer of the play and the chairperson of the conference, Beijing Fayuan Temple would make its debut on 5th December, at Beijing Tianqiao Performing Arts Center. Well-known performers, such as Xi Meijuan, Zhou Jie, Fang Xu, Jia Yiping and Zhao Huanyu were said to be portraying important characters in the play.
At the conference, Tian Qinxin (director and scriptwriter) expressed his gratitude to NTCC, for its generous support of the play. She remarked that it was no easy job adapting such an inclusive story with emotions so profound.
Zhou Jie spoke at the conference on behalf of performers of the play, saying that he was grateful for being “called back” from movie and TV show production and returning to the stage. He said he would do his best in the performance, for the sake of the script, the director, the National Theater Company of China and the young performers who might follow his footsteps.
Project Manger Wang Pengpeng also addressed the conference, saying that “the play is a huge step forward for Tianqiao Shengshi Investment Group” which would “spare no effort to facilitate the production”.
Finally, Zhou Yuyuan concluded that “Beijing Fayuan Temple is a praiseworthy play born at a time when original productions are in desperate need. We will make it a masterpiece of art, which respect, interpret and reflect on history. National Theater Company of China shall undertake the responsibility to support local theater and local writer, and to restore theater to its original purity ”
