Plot Summary:
A medical team from an eye hospital was sent on a mission to offer cataract treatments in Tibet. During their staying with local inhabitants, the team members were amazed to find that the Renci Ren Quzhen, an elderly Tibetan woman who, despite her suffering from cataract, had maintained the habit of hoisting national flag everyday in her courtyard for an entire 45 years. Moved and touched by her patriotic spirit, they all embarked on a pilgrimage to bring light back into her world of darkness.
Using direct, unpretentious and realistic narratives to depict a real story, the movie truthfully brings out such themes as the love of an ordinary person for her mother country, the friendship between Chinese minority and Han ethnic group as well as the extravagant love and compelling sense of compassion characteristic of Chinese people.
She Who Hoists National Flag has been nominated as one of the exemplary movies dedicated to the 65th Anniversary of People’s Republic of China.
