Characters
Qiao Qaio (portrayed by Jia Yiping): Chun Ling’s husband, a typical nobody from the underclass who lives an ordinary yet peaceful life. As an honest, sincere and kind man, he allows himself to be hen-packed by his girl friend and bullied by his neighbors on the one hand, but capable of performing heroic deeds on the other.
Chun Ling (portrayed by Liu Yuxin): a pretty, ordinary and a kind-hearted girl, cheerful, outgoing, responsible and bad-tempered. Beneath the mask of a strong-minded wealthy lady, she actually is a desirable woman to whom many men dreamed of marrying.
Hei Pi (portrayed by Yuan Hong): with scars on head and tattoos all over his body he is a typical image of the bully, a gold chain around his neck, dressed in flowered shirt and boxers, wandering about in a pair of slippers. But he is not merely an ordinary rogue who flirts with others’ wives or bosses around in the neighborhood.
Xiang Gong (portrayed by Zhao Bin): a once well-known magician who chose to live quietly among the ordinary. Once in a while, he would play his magical tricks to earn a living, or simply to win the game of mahjong. As a mild and courteous person, he never got mad at Hei Pi, who criticized him of being sissy. Instead, he wold give his critic a tender look, protesting in a coquettish voice: you naughty boy.
Han Mei (portrayed by Liao Xiaoqin): a local girl with all the feminine charm, direct, frank and enthusiastic like the hot summer weather of Wuhan. Her speech, as well as her action, are as crisp as the fried buns (local snack) . Certainly, as a top-notch mahjong player, she could be tender and soft, capable of chatting and gossiping.
Granny (portrayed by Sun Lili): an old woman with rich life experience, always appearing as the silent supporting role, slow and numb on the surface, but shrewd perceptive on the inside, quick to avoid any trouble that she might get herself into.
